With the release of The Gmod Idiot Box Episode 7, I've decided that I've had enough of the channel comments. I'd left it up for some time thinking it would be fun for the fans to kind of communicate a bit, get more involved in my channel than just watch videos and take off elsewhere afterward, maybe even give a little open constructive criticism, but the longer I'd left it up, the worse things got.
The channel comments became a horrible spam factory with no end in sight, and not the fun kind of spam where people crack jokes, fool around and have fun, no the frustrating kind where people threaten to un-subscribe because I haven't posted a video in less than two weeks or just plain holding down the number key of the next GIB episode and hitting the post button. Not only that, but there's been other crap too, like weird rumors being posted as well like, "WHY DID YOU STOP MAKING EPISODES?!" and people asking me questions even though there's a private message system for that. Some critique the front page video that I'm promoting as though I was the one that made it too and best of all, yes you guessed it, THEY ASK ABOUT THE FUCKING MUSIC which I've been pointing a link to a dozen times over in every single Gmod video I've ever made. Worse yet, people think I'm here to compete with other machinima makers like DJY1991 and Kitty0706. That's flat out ridiculous. I mean, can't we just enjoy them all and not try to figure out who's better? I CAN, I'm friends with both of them. DJY1991 and ICTON inspired me to even START making Gmod movies and Kitty0706 inspired me to take the effort to lip sync characters more often. In turn, I like to think they learned a couple things from me too.
Another reason for this is, I'm going to be taking a bit of a break from the videos for a while after I make the 50,000 subscriber milestone video. It won't be a SUPER LONG while, but maybe a month or two and I don't feel like enduring the inevitable spam of the number 8, threats of un-subscribing if I don't hurry up and make more videos or people being douchebags to me because they can't seem to pass the time on their own. I will be checking back every now and again to read and respond to the private messages, but other than that, a break's a break.

ReplyDeleteYou should make a behind the scenes video that shows all of the tedious work and time that it takes to create an average GIB video. That might help lower the spam, because everyone will most likely watch it and understand (maybe).

Plus I dont think that the Behind the Scenes thing would work cause some people are just too retarded to realize that the videos can take between a few weeks to a few months. Plus they dont realize that DasBoSchitt actually has a life and he isnt some 10 year old that makes retarded movies that takes only like 2 hours to make and post.

While it's certainly true that the majority of the comments he gets from people are sheer stupidity, disabling the commenting system does shut out any people with something important to say, how few they may be. But under these circumstances there seems to be little choice. Anywho, have a nice break, seven was another great episode.

ReplyDeleteMan, you always do great work, and I'm sorry about all of the complete morons who can't get it through their freakin' skulls that new videos take time and effort to create. Although I only became a fan recently, I think that most of your skits are tons better than DJY1991's (no offense to his). I'd rather continue having your brilliant high-quality stuff, even if I had to wait a year for each new video, than some cheap crap every other day.

Its your channel and if people don't like that, well too fucking bad! =) they can go outside and get some oxygen into their brains which they clearly NEED! lol. You're a awesome video maker, and really you do deserve a break. I love your video style and some of the stuff you make had me literally laugh out loud, something that's generally hard for me to do on most "random" gmod movies.
ReplyDeleteI hate obnoxious people like these, I once had a popular Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 video, which featured a nuke (which was a custom firework you could make in-game), after a while, even after I said where I got the nuke, people still begged for it anyways and it drove me to the point of removing the video. I, in a sense, have felt your pain.

My Gmod dubmass pack wasnt so good but still it took me 3 weeks to make it(in sp) so i bet that making a script than recording and editing takes u one hell of a time bcz counting how avesome ur vids are ur:
